Honor Flight Austin will be the first Honor Flight in the Nation to honor our World War II Veterans at the newly unveiled, American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, in Washington D.C. October 12, 2014.

This will be Honor Flight Austin’s 20th Honor Flight, leaving from Austin Bergstrom International Airport October 11, 2014 to Washington D.C. and returning to Austin on October 12, 2014.

This Honor Flight will have twenty Central Texas Veterans on board who will visit their war memorials, in Washington D.C., built to honor their service and sacrifice.

Allen Bergeron, Chairman of Honor Flight Austin, shared the motivation to honor our Central Texas Veterans with an Honor Flight and urged the public to find every willing and able WWII Veteran in their community and offer them an opportunity to fly.

“We want to honor the Legacy of service and sacrifice, shown by our most senior Veterans, on and off the battlefield. These men and women fought a war, came home, rebuilt America, and asked for nothing in return. I urge the public to honor our WWII Veterans with the opportunity to see their Memorials in Washington D.C.”

The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial was unveiled on October 5, 2014. President Barack Obama, and more than 3,000 disabled veterans, veterans, and guests were present.

President Obama shared at the unveiling of the new Memorial, “You walk these quiet grounds — pause by the pictures of these men and women, you look into their eyes, read their words — and we’re somehow able to join them on a journey that speaks to the endurance of the American spirit. And to you, our veterans and wounded warriors, we thank you for sharing your journey with us.”
